Seattle, WA – Seattle Pug Rescue is excited to announce that the 2005 Seattle Pug Gala, held May 14 in Seattle at Magnuson park, raised over $15,000 to aid in the medical care of rescued and homeless pugs. Over 2,300 people were estimated to be in attendance and whopping 1,000 pugs, making it the most successful Seattle Pug Gala in the ten-year history of the event.
The Seattle Pug Gala features pug races, talent show, costume contest and the “Parade of Rescued Pugs.” This year, winners of the costume contest include a pug resembling a dirt devil vacuum, a pug adorned in the traditional attire of Chinese royalty, and the unlikely but definitely creative pug made up as “gum on the bottom of a shoe!”
Talent show winners include a “whirling dervish” pug, impressing the throng of pug enthusiasts by truly bringing to life to the phrase “perpetual motion.” In a heartwarming moment, a deaf pug trained to obey hand signals by her owner performed her tricks to the amazement of the large crowd.
Nancy Hood, organizer of the event, said, “We appreciate the support that Northwest pug owners show year after year by attending this fundraiser for needy pugs.” She adds, “The increasing popularity of the Seattle Pug Gala proves that pug people are the most dedicated dog owners around.”
Seattle Pug Rescue is a division of the Puget Sound Pug Dog Club. The group rescued and provided medical care to over 40 local pugs in 2004.
