Back to Success Stories

Placing four-year-old Beau was not going to be easy.  In spite of his great heart and spunky, playful spirit, Beau has a neurological problem that causes him to have frequent BM accidents.  It would take a special home to care for and love this rather large, exuberant Pug.

Once he was turned over to SPDR, Beau was taken to the veterinary clinic for a full neurological work-up, which revealed a congenital abnormality in the lumbar region of his spine.  The risks and dubious results made surgery out of the question.

However, after two months in his foster home, with lots of TLC, Beau improved greatly.  Once he was put on a carefully monitored diet and exercised regularly, he lost weight and became more energetic.   As his health and well-being improved, his accidents became less frequent.  Beau loved his foster family, especially his foster mom's four year old daughter.  They played ball together every day and she was always willing to rub his tummy.

In January, Beau's foster Mom fixed him a birthday cake made with tuna and he had a fun birthday party.  But there was still no permanent home for him in sight.

Then one day Beau's foster mom heard about a lady in Alaska who had a family of four pugs and a poodle.  Two of them were rescues and one had recently passed away.  She thought this might be the perfect place for Beau.  She contacted the lady in Alaska and told her about the Pug with a heart of gold.  When the lady heard about Beau she knew he would be right for her family and quickly began the adoption process.

Once the paperwork was completed and everything checked out, the question was how to get Beau to Alaska?

Enter "Operation Puglift". Thanks to Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, several internet Pug forums, and their enthusiastic members, Beau was soon winging his way to Alaska with guardians who work for Alaska Airlines and have Pugs of their own.   Beau is thriving with his new family, has infrequent accidents and fully intends to live happily ever after in his forever home, as soon as his new sisters get out of his bed and stop their constant kissing.  After all, a fella' needs to rest sometime!
